District Director's Message

Aloha my fellow Toastmasters ohana!

March is here, and I am feeling lucky!  Lucky to know we have a great District with members with passion for growing as better speakers and effective leaders who are willing to help/mentor others in this common goal.  Can you believe we have only 3 months left till the Toastmaster fiscal year is done?  Do you remember the goals you’ve set for yourself on July 1?  Let’s continue to finish strong in accomplishing our goals and helping others reach their goals!

Respectfully,
Sepiuta Holakeituai, DTM, District Director 2020 - 2021

Community club with meetings on Saturday, open to everyone
  • Walmart Pacific NW Toastmasters - chartered on January 19, 2021
Closed corporate club for Walmart employees

Special thanks to club sponsors Rhodora Orias, Dan Orias (Forever Achievers), and Amy Este, Rose Kirland (Walmart Pacific NW Toastmasters).

We Remember Ron Mobley

On February 21, 2021, we were informed of the passing of our long-time parliamentarian and mentor, Ron Mobley, DTM. Ron was a pillar to District 49.  He was the 1986-1987 District Governor.  In 2016 he was awarded the first-ever District 49 Lifetime Achievement Award.  Ron was a mentor to all.

Please visit our Facebook group to read remembrances about Ron by Sepi Holakeituai, Joyce Bullion, and Rose Kirland.  As stated in a comment by Jicky Ferrer, Ron exemplified excellence in everything he did.  He was a veteran, and his love for our military clubs was shown with the “Ron Mobley Poi Pounder Award” for the best Area 11 Military club of the year.  Brandon Elefante, who met Ron outside of Toastmasters, also posted a great comment.  They first met at the ‘Aiea Neighborhood Board, where Ron served for many years, and his lifetime commitment to the community, the military, and Bank of Hawaii stands as an exemplar to us all.

Please share your memories with us also.  We express our love to his clubs, to those who knew him, and to his family.  His passing deeply saddens us.

PROGRAM QUALITY DIRECTOR's Message

Aloha,

Congratulations to all our Area speech contestants!  I had a great time watching everyone’s Table Topics and International Speeches.  I look forward to your presentations later this month at the Division level.  The contest chairs and volunteers did an excellent job making sure the events were done by the book to give our contestants a fair platform.  Thank you to all who volunteered.

If you weren’t watching the contests, you missed the big news promised a month ago.  Our weeklong District 49 Conference will include a townhall meeting with Toastmasters International President Richard E. Peck, DTM!  You will not want to miss this opportunity.  President Peck will also be presenting the keynote at the conference finale on May 8.

We are also looking for clubs that want to showcase their members and their meetings.  The District is inviting clubs to present an educational session from either the Better Speaker Series or Successful Club Series as part of the official events.  If you are interested, please email [email protected] for more information.  Additionally, we are looking at a club video contest, think 30 to 60-second commercial. More information coming soon!

Sincerely,
Kory Ikeda, ACB, ALB, Program Quality Director,

PUBLIC RELATIONS MANAGER's Message

Dear Hawaii Toastmasters Ohana,

We are entering spring, the most exciting part of the Toastmasters year. Our district leaders are in turbo mode getting ready for the annual conference, preparing division and district rounds of the speech contests, chartering new clubs, and running membership building and renewal campaigns. At the same time, PR team keeps adding new content to the district website and constantly pushing to improve quality and professionalism of all channels. I'm truly honored to be a part of the effort and I'm grateful for all the help and support that the district and clubs receive from our leaders and volunteers.
