On behalf of the Planning Committee, I welcome you to your 2023 District 49 Toastmasters 4-day conference, “People. Passion. Purpose” April 29, May 4 – May 6, 2023.
I’m so very honored and privileged to serve with your Conference Chair Jennifer Borja-Johnson and an exceptional committee this year. Big mahalo to all the participants for your contributions which are the foundation of this conference.
Join us for an amazing 4 days! We have such an exciting program planned that will be productive as well as fun filled. Experience the District International speech contest, keynotes from incredible leaders and celebrate the growth of other members who have achieved their goals!
The District 49 International Speech Contest will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023. This event will be recorded. Attendance is restricted to the Speech Contestants and Contest functionaries.
You are invited to view the recorded Contest on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the Watch Party event. Be inspired and entertained as eight finalist compete on the virtual stage for the right to represent District 49 in the Region Quarterfinals.
On May 5, 2023 of the Conference is the virtual platform District Council meeting. The meeting is open to all members however only District Council members and the District Executive Committee may vocalize participation and cast votes on business matters. It is also at the business meeting that candidates for District key offices - term 2023-2024 - are elected; namely District Director, Program Quality Director, Club Growth Director, and Division Directors.
Please review the candidates credentials on the District website; which will be made public at least 6 weeks prior to the District Council Meeting.
Closing day, May 6, 2023 will be in person at the Pagoda Hotel, C’est Si Bon Room from 7:30am-1:30pm. Early Registration incentive is $75.00 for the first 50 registrants by March 15, 2023. The fee is $85.00 from March 16 to May 6, 2023.
Our conference Toastmaster Emcee is Keith Regan, State of Hawaii acting Controller who will emcee us through an exciting program. Take your Toastmasters experience to new heights with the educational and entertaining keynote speaker Accredited Speaker, Distinguished Toastmaster, Past District Governor Robert Cravalho and speaker Dr. Tsui-Hui Hung who will transform your concepts of how far you can grow. The day program will also include educational and leadership recognitions, awards, a continental breakfast, snack breaks, lunch, fellowship and fun!

The District 49 International Speech Contest will be held in a closed session and the event will be recorded.
Attendance is restricted to the Speech Contestants and Contest functionaries.
The first and second place contestant winners of the International Speech Contest from each Division contest will participate in District 49’s International Speech Contest final. The Contest will be open only to 8 finalists and contest officials on Saturday April 29 online via Zoom.
On Thursday evening May 4, 2023, the contest speeches will be streamed to the general public.
Contest results will be announced that evening, and trophies will be presented to the winner and runner ups in person on Saturday, May 6, 2023 on closing day of the District 49 Conference.

Names of all District contest finalists, contest officials, and a link to the Watch Party will be available by April 30, 2023.
At the business meeting, District Council will elect District Leaders for the 2023 - 2024 program year, adopt a new district alignment, receive reports from Key 3 District leaders, Division Directors, Financial Manager, and District Auditor.
Registration to the Business Meeting is open, but only District Council Members are able to vote: Club Presidents, Vice Presidents Education, and District Executive Committee members including District Director, Program Quality Director, Club Growth Director, Public Relations Manager, Administration Manager, Division Directors, Area Directors, and Immediate Past District Director.
Registration link and meeting documents will be provided approximately two weeks prior to the conference.
