Aloha my Toastmasters Ohana!
We are one month into the new Toastmasters year and we’ve seen such great things with our clubs utilizing virtual platforms (Microsoft Teams, and Zoom). Clubs are using these platforms to host club meetings, club trainings, and their virtual Open House. If your club would like to use the District’s Zoom account, please email me at [email protected].
We also encourage clubs to continue to meet via virtual platforms for the month of August, until things become safer for all our members and guests. We will monthly update the district in this newsletter when we as a District will support the opening of in-person meetings (based on County, State, and Toastmasters International Headquarters safety recommendations).
Respectfully,
Sepiuta Holakeituai, DTM
District Director 2020-2021
Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) recognition is the greatest honor that can be earned by a member of Toastmasters International. The DTM award is only given to those who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and communication skills and who have used these skills to help others in their self-development efforts.
Attaining this award is not an easy task. All awardees have completed projects of progressive complexity, earning successive awards to reach DTM status. These accomplishments have given them a greater perspective of the value of being a good communicator and an effective leader. They have assisted their clubs, district and community.
This outstanding achievement will serve as an inspiration to all Toastmasters. Rebecca, Danilo, and Brandon, we are proud of you. Congratulations on your great achievement!
Education awards are also posted on our District 49 Facebook page. Feel free to drop in there to congratulate our awardees.
To encourage and support new clubs, District 49 is announcing District Director Pineapple Awards.
Please check our 2020-21 Incentives page for details.

Dear Toastmasters Ohana in Hawaii,
In the second week of July, Toastmasters International released an updated Brand Manual. Please check it out. It is beautiful! In my opinion, Toastmasters has now one of the best and up-to-date visual styles I’ve seen of any non-profit organizations. Instantly, I became a big fan of the new visual language and an avid TI brand ambassador.
If you like to consult compliance of your club’s visual communication style with the new TI guidelines, please email at [email protected]. PR Team will be happy to help.
Positively,

During the covid time, it is more important than ever that our club websites offer compelling messages to prospective members and make them want to come to our clubs. In an effort to help increase quality of the club websites in our District, PR Team is announcing the first annual – Outstanding Club Website Award. Between October 1st and October 10th, District PR Team will evaluate all club websites and select one winner.
What to do to make your club website shine? Please check this new resource posted on our district website. It details basic requirements a good club website needs to meet and also provides several useful tips for those who would like to take their club website to the next level. Each tip is accompanied by a good example to follow, a real club website from our district that has it right.
At the same time, we will also select Outstanding Club Facebook Page (or Facebook group). We are currently researching good practices of Facebook pages at other districts and plan to provide guidelines to our clubs in next two weeks.
Please check the new club finder on our district website. It is cool! Say, you would like to see all clubs on all islands that meet on Tuesday evening. Couple clicks, and you’ll get instantly a list of seven clubs with links to their websites or Zoom ID’s.
If you like to update or add any info of your club, please email at [email protected].
District 49 PR Team is expanding, and we are looking for a writer (or two) with perfect writing skills and a good eye for a story. Are you willing to help us promote Toastmasters and clubs in District 49? Please let us know at [email protected].
Joy Turbeville a.k.a. Mrs. T. keeps adding her short but powerful and well researched videos - speech tips - to the resource section of our website. Since the last newsletter, there are three new speech tips:
